Honey, 75, was born June 21, 1936 in Wilson, NC to Wilbur William and Carolyn Teal Garner. She gave the gift of music throughout her life, singing in the Living Christmas Tree in Charlotte, teaching voice to students in her home, and always singing with her grandchildren.
Honey loved people and would converse with complete strangers, instantly transforming them into friends. She especially loved children. Her title at Family Support Center may have been receptionist, but to the children there, she was confidant and friend. Her children, their friends and her grandchildren were welcome into her home and heart and she always found time to listen. Friends and family enjoyed accompanying Honey to her beloved Charleston and Kiawah Island. She was always happiest when she could walk on the beach.
Honey is survived by her husband C. Dillon “Bud” Gaskins. She will also be missed by daughter, Betty Ross Gaskins and son, Philip Gaskins. Her grandchildren William Gaskins, Rebecca Gaskins and Kailey Gaskins will miss her loving heart and off beat humor. Honey is also survived by her loving sister, Nina Bizzell Scoggins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM, June 21, at McEwen Chapel in Pineville, NC.
Condolences to the family may be offered at www.mcewenpinevillechapel.com.
