Mrs. Bettie Maske Wardlaw, 87, of Charlotte, entered into rest on Friday, July 31, 2015 at her residence. A native of Richmond County, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Dorsey and Fannie Pearl Biggs Maske. Bettie was a member of Midwood Baptist Church and a former member of Shamrock Drive Baptist Church. She was a member of the Tops Club and Love, Inc. She was also the recipient of the Civic Recognition Award for acts of compassion and kindness. Bettie was a quiet and dedicated Christian who spent countless hours in volunteer work in her church’s Women’s Missionary Union, Media Center and Love, Inc. She had a caring heart for those in need and gave generously of her time and resources to help wherever she could. She was the epitome of selflessness. She will be missed so very much by those who deeply loved her. Bettie retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company in 1983, where she was a Traffic Engineer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin F. Wardlaw; by her brother, Jackson (Bill) Maske and by a sister, Patricia Maske.
Bettie is survived by her brother, Harold George Maske and his wife Katherine; and by two sisters, Ellen Maske Eatmon and Joanna Maske. Also surviving her are thirteen nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for Bettie will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Garden of the Cross at Charlotte Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Dr. Gary Baldwin will be officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.
In lieu of customary arrangements, the family requests that memorial donations be made in memory of Bettie to Midwood Baptist Church; 2029 Mecklenburg Avenue; Charlotte, NC 28205 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
