A Charlotte native, Beth was born on April 4, 1947, the eldest daughter of Frank and Helen Newton. After graduating from West Mecklenburg High School, she soon met the love of her life, Claude Palmer, and they married in 1967. The matriarch of the family, she was a loyal and compassionate friend, creative, caring, inquisitive in life, and strong to the end with the selfless steel that only great mothers possess. She was a devoted grandmother and loved to dote on and spoil her grandkids. She also was a birder, hiker, lover of literature, and she enjoyed music to the depths of her soul. She was predeceased by brother Mark Newton. Survivors include husband Claude Palmer; daughter Heather Palmer Fowler and husband, Jon Fowler; daughter Karsen Palmer Price; and two grandchildren, Zachary Fowler and Peyton Price. Surviving siblings include brothers Frank Newton Jr., Nick Newton and Alan Newton, and sisters Barbara Walker and Becky Allen. She also is survived by a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.
Visitation will be held March 31 from 6 to 9 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Home, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte. A memorial celebration will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to Levine Cancer Institute's Cancer Research Innovation Fund or McKay Urology Research Fund; Carolina Waterfowl Rescue; or the charity of choice.
We ask that every time you see a cardinal … or hike a trail …or enjoy good music, you will think of Beth and smile. Online condolences may be left at www.McEwenPinevilleChapel.com.
