Ann Dienno Lotz, 97, passed away on October 10, 2022. She was born on December 8, 1924 in Harrisburg, PA, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary Angelous Dienno. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Ernest Dienno; her first husband, James F. Carroll; and her second husband, Edward Lotz.
Ann grew up in Harrisburg and was graduated from Harrisburg Catholic High School and lived there until her marriage in 1947. She then moved to Emmitsburg, MD while her husband finished college, having been interrupted by serving in the Pacific Theatre in WWII. They then moved to Washington, DC where Ann worked as a legal secretary until the birth of their son, James Carroll.
Ann engaged in numerous school and church activities, all while being devoted to her only child. There was no task that she would not perform for “Jimmie”, and no event she would ever miss.
Upon remarriage, she located to Pottsville, PA, where again she threw herself into many activities, including leading the church senior citizens organization. She also managed to find time to pursue and attain a paralegal certificate from Penn State.
Upon the death of her second husband, Ann relocated to Charlotte to be with her son and his family. Once again she made many friends; became active in the St. Gabriel Church community, and became the #1 fan of her grandchildren’s school and sports endeavors. Family devotion was the most important aspect of her life. Her kindness to family, friends and strangers was renowned.
In the last year of her life Ann lived at WaltonWood-Cotswold. Frequent visits would find her walking/running around the community. She was often described as the fittest person they had ever seen for her age. Special thank you to WaltonWood and their staff.
Ann is survived by her only child, James Carroll and daughter-in-law, Joan of Charlotte; four grandchildren: Anne Carroll Williams (her husband Greg Williams and great-grandchildren James, Clara, Adelaide, Luke and Virginia Williams) of Tampa, FL; Joseph Carroll (his wife Heather Carroll) of Philadelphia, PA; Erin Carroll Wood (her husband Sam and great-grandson Hugo) of Charleston, SC; and John Carroll of New York, NY; sister-in-law, Helen Krautheim; nieces, Linda Sommers, Stephanie Phillips and Carol Ann Krautheim; nephews, Carlton (“Buddy”) Mansure and Tom Krautheim.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine Laboure in Harrisburg on Monday, October 17, 2022. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. There will be a reception immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.
