Anita Patterson Shaw

In addition to her parents, Anita was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, James Benny Shaw, Sr.; sister, Patricia P. Chapman; brother, Michael Bettencourt; and granddaughter, Courtney A. Sanford.

Anita was born and attended school in Atlanta, but always claimed that she grew up in Charlotte. She was a long time member of Sharon Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon. She will be remembered for her love for and dedication to her family, her sense of humor, her willingness to learn everything from tennis to golf, from sewing to skiing, from accounting to cooking. Anita had a green thumb and she loved to read, walk on the beach, dance and was the family champion in gin rummy. She truly believed that God has watched over her every day of her life.

Anita is survived by her four children and their spouses, Dr. Beverly S. Sanford (Don); James B. Shaw, Jr. (Vickie); Steven M. Shaw (Lynn); and Kenneth B. Shaw (Regina); grandchildren, Zachary Sanford (Meghan), Dr. Alex Sanford (Heather), Jamie Shaw (Mary Ann), Caitlin Shaw, Conner Shaw, Brad Shaw and Larisa Shaw (Brian Patnaude); great grandchildren, Jacob Sanford, Carson Sanford, Harper Shaw, Kenny Shaw, Landon Patnaude and Noah Patnaude; niece, Christi Farrell and nephews, Vince Chapman and Bruce Chapman, and six grandnieces and grandnephews. Her Westie, “Sugah Darlin,” was a great joy to Anita over the past 9 years.

A memorial service will be held at Sharon Presbyterian Church on December 8, 2015, at 2:00 pm. A visitation will be held on December 7, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the McEwen- Pineville Chapel. The burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sharon Presbyterian Church, or to the Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
