Lonnie Robert Small Sr., age 87, of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Lonnie was born on April 29, 1935, in Charlotte to the late James and Charlotte Small. He married the love of his life, Joyce Doby Small. They were together for 43 years before her passing in 1998 and had two children, Lonnie Jr. and Jan.
Those who knew Lonnie knew that he was a family man. He had an undeniable love for his children, his grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Lonnie was also active in his community, where he was a part of several organizations. The Moose Lodge, where he served as the Governor for 3 terms, as well as the American Legion, Shriners Club, and the VFW. Lonnie had many lifelong friends from these organizations. All of whom have shown tremendous love and support to Lonnie and his family.
Lonnie is predeceased by his parents, James and Charlotte Small; his beloved wife, Joyce Small; as well as many siblings.
Lonnie leaves to cherish his memory his children, Lonnie Jr. and wife Ann Small, and Jan and husband Damon Binaco; grandchildren, Kim Small and fiancé, Justin Purvis, Heather Small, Lauren Furr and husband Reid, and Dawn McGraw and fiancé, Matt Simmons; great grandchildren, Emma Simmons, Colton Simmons, Levi Furr, and a precious great grandson on the way. Siblings, Ernie Small and Elaine Rich; as well as a host of other family members and friends.
Lonnie and Joyce also had a passion for dancing. The family finds great peace that they are now united again.
