She had four siblings (Mary, Rose, Virginia and Danny). She was introduced to her husband, Chief Daniel A. Kane (NYFD), and they were married in 1947. She is survived by her three daughters, Mary Ellen Cortese, Doreen Smith, and Karen McDonnell; her 8 grandchildren, Lauren, Tamara, Stacy, Daniel, Eleanor, Luke, and Matthew; 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Her sister-in-law, Veronica O'Connell and many nieces and nephews will miss her very much.
She spent her life living in Brooklyn, NY. After her husband's passing in 1985, she left NY to be closer to her family. She was an avid traveler and shopper and knew every transportation route by heart. Her grandchildren have fond memories of riding buses to the beach or the mall with her, playing games and watching Shirley Temple movies together. She loved to visit family and was the life of every family party.
A mass of christian burial for Eleanor will be held Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 195 Amicks Ferry Road, Chapin, South Carolina 29036. Family will receive friends following the service. Services will be livestreamed on the Caughman Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel's Facebook page.
