Sally Maahs, age 72, of Sun Lakes, Arizona, passed peacefully with her loving son by her side on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. She was born on November 14, 1949 to Elgardt "Bud" and Georgianne (LaSure) Maahs in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Sally grew up in Hartford, Wisconsin along with her two younger sisters, Susan (Michael) Allen and Betsy (Glenn) Rix.
Sally is survived by her children, Scott (Danielle) Kwaterski and Stephen (Laura) Kwaterski; grandchildren, Silas Kwaterski, Sam Kwaterski, Emma Kwaterski, and Hannah Kwaterski; brothers-in-law, Michael Allen and Glenn (Jeanne) Rix; niece, Kathryn Allen; nephew, Jonathan (Taylor) Rix; the father of her sons, Edmund, Jr. "Guy" (Robin) Kwaterski; dear friends Barb and Joe Baemmert and their family, and other dear friends and work colleagues. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Susan Allen and Betsy Rix.
Sally graduated from Hartford Union High School in 1967 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a degree in history in 1971. After raising her sons, Sally returned to college and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay with a degree in accounting. Sally's accounting work was truly her professional passion, and Sally thoroughly enjoyed her work for various mining and construction companies in Arizona. She retired from a successful accounting career.
Sally was an excellent cook and a gifted baker, who regularly gave family and friends her famous Christmas cookies, German sweet chocolate cakes, and other treats. She was also a voracious reader throughout her life, and from a young age she constantly had her nose in a book. Sally enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, and loved to host at her home in Sun Lakes.
A funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on March 10, 2022, at St. Steven’s Catholic Church in Sun Lakes, Arizona, which will be followed by a Celebration of Sally's Life. Following the funeral mass, family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Luncheon from 11:30am-2:00pm at the Oakwood Country Club At Iron Oaks, 24218 S Oakwood Blvd., Sun Lakes, AZ 85248.
In recognition of the excellent care that Sally received at Chandler Regional Medical Center following her diagnosis with lung cancer, memorial donations can be made in her name for cancer research to Dignity Health Foundation - East Valley.
