Robert Wayne Jorns, 97 years old of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on July 25, 2023, with his loved ones on the phone and by his side. He was born in Jacksonport, Wisconsin to Edward Jorns and Martha LeMoine Jorns on November 1st, 1925. He grew up on a farm in Door County. He graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1943. He joined the United States Navy in 1944 when he was 18 years old and served during World War II, he trained soldiers to fly and worked on the planes in the aviation department. Robert loved to fly. After the Navy, Robert kept busy. He worked along the highways cutting trees, for a brief time he moved to Tucson, Arizona to help his brother on his ranch, and back in Wisconsin helped his parents on their farm. He rented farms as he was a true farmer at heart. Robert and his 2 brothers bought Fernwood Gardens in 1950, recently known as Mr. G’s and currently Fernwood Gardens Ballroom, until 1959 and worked for Bay Ship as a welder, during that time. He met Florence Sofia Christine Krueger on a double date with her sister, they started dating, fell in love and married in 1954. Florence had 2 children from a previous marriage. Robert and Florence had 3 girls of their own. (Between the 5 kids they produced 18 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.) In 1959 Robert and Florence purchased a farm which is known as Plum Bottom Farm in Egg Harbor and continued farming until 1987. In 1971 Robert and Florence purchased a home in Chandler, Arizona where they remained until 1990. He went back and forth between Wisconsin and Arizona until 2019 and would have been considered a snowbird. While living in Chandler he raised sheep. He really loved his sheep. They moved east to Mesa, Arizona to their last home in 1991. In 1995, his wife, Florence, of 41 years passed away. In the next few years after Florence passed away, he picked up a love for dancing and went to the VFW and other dances in the winter months. His favorite songs were “Charlie’s Shoes” by Billy Walker and “Crystal Chandelier” by Charlie Pride. His last dance was at the end of June 2023. He dated Ruby Graf from Wisconsin from 1996 until she passed away in 2020. He also enjoyed sports and news throughout his years and was a huge Green Bay Packer fan and Milwaukee Brewers fan.
