I am SO SORRY that I am just learning of Mr. Tanner's passing. He did my taxes for many years and I always looked forward to seeing him every year (yes, despite him being my tax guy). Anytime I had a random question throughout the year he was always responsive and willing to help me.  I am so sad....

For over 20 years, Greg did our taxes. Equally important were our annual discussions regarding the NCAA college basketball tournament and our respective alma maters (Kansas and Michigan State) and the classic games they played against each other. I’ll miss Greg.   My condolences to his family and friends. Cherish the memories.

Greg was my rock, the love of my life. He worked so hard and his dedication to his family, friends and clients was more then anyone I ever knew.  He was loving and caring and was so involved in so many things and interests. He was larger then life and always reflected that outwards to people he knew as well as strangers. He was a history buff and war gamer and always made time to enjoy things he loved . That was who  he was. I will always cherish and love the man who will forever remain in my heart! I'm just hearing of Greg's passing, today, Oct 1.  My heart goes out to his family.  May God bless and hold you until you are together again.  

So very sorry to hear of Greg's passing. Prayers to his family and friends in this time of sadness. Greg  has done my taxes for over 25 years and we considered each other friends. Gone way too soon. RIP my friend.

Noland and I are so very sad to hear of Greg’s death. He was our cpa for many years. We liked him so very much and he will be missed.

I am totally shocked upon hearing this very sad news. Greg had been my accountant and stock broker since I moved to the valley in 95 . All I ever had to do was pick up the phone and he responded when he had a free moment.my sincere condolences to his families, RIP Greg and Godspeed!

My sincere condolences go out to all of Greg's family and friends. I just this evening learned of his passing or I would have attended his memorial. I will remember Greg not just as my tax accountant whom could be trusted for his advise at any time by simply picking up the phone, but also for his friendship attending a Suns or Diamondbacks game or respectfully sparring over politics. i will especially remember Greg for the time we spent playing city league basket ball together. His passing comes as quite a surprise as we were so close in age. Again, my sincere condolences.

Tom and I will forever cherish the fond memories we have of Greg.  We will never forget the wonderful time we all had together when he, Laurie, and Charles visited our home in Colorado along with Garry, Carolyn, and Ayden (who was just a baby) some 17 years ago.

The movie tribute was just  "beautiful" and truly showed a life well lived.  Our hearts go out to Laurie, Charles, his family, and friends during this extremely difficult time.

Way back in the mid-'90s, before the Internet was a thing to most, I met Greg Tanner....straight out of the Yellow Pages.  I needed someone to help me with my Income Taxes, and came across Greg.  And I was the lucky one.  

Greg had an office in Scottsdale down the street from where I lived, and I used to smile to myself driving by when I would see his Camry parked there -- at all times of day/night.  Building his business, doing his work diligently and helping others in the craft he excelled at.  He was a rock.  A consistent, trusted voice and friend I could rely on to have my back, and talk a little College Basketball along the way -- even with Greg being a Jayhawk and me a MIZZOU Tiger!  

Greg was such a class act.  I admire the way he carried himself, with a quiet confidence and dignity.  RIP, my friend.


Greg was not only my longtime CPA he was a trusted advisor and friend. I miss him already. RIP my friend.

My first memories of Greg were when my sister Laurie brought him to one of our family gatherings. He introduced himself as Jim Carrey's brother and I bought it... hook, line, and sinker. His great sense of humor was quite evident from the beginning. As I got to know Greg better I found him to easily be one of the most intelligent people I have ever met. His gaming skills are legend as has been extolled by many of his friends in their shared memories of Greg. But for me what stands out most in my thoughts and memories of Greg was his devotion to Laurie and Charles. Greg was a good man, a good friend, and, above all else, a devoted and loving family man. He will be missed.

I met Greg 31 years ago, through our gaming hobby. He was always a very strong player, with sharp thinking, very competitive and successful in all the games he played. I know he was also a very reliable professional who built a successful business, in addition to being a fit and competitive basketball player. 
I am shocked that he is gone. I was expecting many more years of gaming with him, and discussions on all sorts of historical topics. I am glad we got together recently for a shared friend's birthday. He leaves a hole in our gaming community, and to all the people who surrounded him. I will miss him

Dear Tanner brothers, Laurie and boys,

I do not have adequate words to express how sad I am that Greg has passed. Losing him will leave a hole that can’t be filled. I am thankful that he was able to be in South Dakota just two weeks ago. He seemed so healthy and peaceful and hopeful about all the things that he and Laurie had planned. And, the shared memories that we revisited at the cousin reunion reminded us of the rich history we all share, both the happy times and the losses. I’ll miss Greg and he will always be in our hearts.

I met Greg 10 years ago at a neighborhood party (I was Jeff Wolfe's neighbor at the time). We hit it off instantly; I found that he was a fellow wargamer and history buff. I will certainly miss weeknight re-enactments of the War of the Roses at Greg's place, but I will miss his wry humor and gentlemanly presence far more. My heart goes out to Laurie and the dogs - may you find some comfort in the memories of those lives Greg touched so dearly, I know where ever Greg is, he's putting in a good word.

It is such a gift that Greg was able to attend the 2021 Morz family reunion in Custer State Park, SD. It has been years since I've seen Greg, and having the opportunity to reconnect with my cousin was a blessing. He was so very happy to be with family...his entire demeanor demonstrated his joy of that connection.  

Greg offered to hike with me when I announced I was sure I'd be the slowest person on the trek to Black Elk peak (I was). This gave us the opportunity to talk about childhood memories: mine were mostly about he and his brothers/my brothers playing war games and his were about me instructing him that it wasn't necessary to fight all the time!  

I am so very, very sorry for the loss of your husband, stepfather, brother and friend. Greg will be missed by so many people. While I am unable to attend the memorial, please know I am there with you in spirit. Love to you all, Kim 


I am so sad to hear of his passing. Greg was a amazing man and just one of the smartest guy I know.  I met him through his great friend David Dean. I played countless war games with him during my college years. Very fond memories of those long talks over a war game table. He always challaged you to think different yet also was willing to always listen as well.  I am sadden such a man was taken too soon from the world.  God Bless his family during this time.  Greg talks for all the lessons and always being so welcoming over the game table to a new player and young kid. Your lessons and conversations will always live with me. I hope to introduce my son to the games we played. You will be missed brother. till we roll some dice again.

Greg was a dear friend of mine for nearly 32 years.  My first introduction was through a mutual friend right after college in 1989 when we gathered for an Avalon Hill Acquire game at a friend's apartment.  What blossomed was a friendship that spanned 3+ decades of mostly war gaming - both 1:1 and multi-player.  Greg was always right!!!  ...and he proved it constantly being the student of game rules which he was!  It was always a fun time around the board game poking jabs as dice were rolled and combat was waged.  I will never forget the dozens and dozens and dozens of AH Kingmaker and AH Age of Renaissance games we played over the years!  Greg was also the one that spawned my election season Super Tuesday night parties.  In the 90's he taught me a fun, easy election game - Parker LANDSLIDE. I ran LANDSLIDE tournaments on Super Tuesdays for the past two decades and Greg was always there!  Some of our election night gatherings topped 40 people!   In later years, I played my first MONSTER wargames with Greg and our other friends.     Greg was also a history buff.  We went to an air show at Goodyear Airport over two decades ago to see WW II airplanes.  And there were many fond memories of pool BBQ parties, Fun Poker Games, Super Bowl Parties, and watching the Diamondbacks win the World Series at Greg and Laurie's house.  I have played hundreds and hundreds of games with Greg over the years and we were both looking forward to gaming into our retirement years.  My condolences go out to Laurie and the family.  I will miss you Greg!  May you rest in  peace.

The tears keep coming; as does the struggle to believe you are really gone.  Thankful for connecting with you just days ago along with extended family in the Black Hills and seeing your joy being part of it all.   I think on your passion for gaming going way back as kids you'd pull me in time and again to learn chess, backgammon, and I recall you buying your first Avalon Hill game, which became a lifetime passion.  And bouncing on your bed with air guitars listening to your first Beatles record (oh, that was your annoying brothers!).  And seems only yesterday we were there celebrating your bond with Laurie, love of your life.  
Rest in Peace brother.   You are loved and will be sorely missed.

I want to send sincere condolences to Greg's widow, and to his family and friends. I have only known Greg online – as a tester (along with Rick and others) for a game I am developing. He was a world class competitor, extremely competent and professional. Very knowledgeable, personable, and always gave valuable feedback! I am so shocked to learn of his passing – I had been so looking forward to meeting him in person at WBC sometime in the future. This is a big blow to the gaming community he will be severely missed! Again, my condolences to his family, whose loss eclipses ours.

I have known Greg for 15 years as a boardgaming friend.  We met at a convention in Pennsylvania that hosts the World Boardgaming Championships.  Over the years, Greg and I connected over the gameboard for hours at a time during that week each year in July.  We visited each others homes in Massachusetts and Arizona.  Greg was one of those guys who always brought laughs, a true heart and excellence to the table.  We were getting much closer in the past year, during the pandemic, with weekly phone calls to play games using the computer.  He always gave me a boost in morale and upped my mood after our games.   Greg was one whom I highly respected.  I will miss him very much.  Greg, may you rest in peace, with God and for ever and ever.  And if you are around in spirit, I could listen for some hints in my next games with our friends.  ;-)
