Emily Isabel (Harrison) Horn, 83, of Sun Lakes, Arizona, passed away suddenly on August 1, 2013. Emily was born to John Edward and Florence (Holmes) Harrison on April 8, 1930, near Boissevain, Manitoba, Canada. At age fifteen, she completed her secondary education and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, to attend business college. She then worked as a secretary and accountant for several firms in Winnipeg, including Warner Brothers film distribution. In 1950 she married Leo Horn, who in 1951 began his career as an exploration geophysicist, first with Western Geophysical and later with Chevron (Standard Oil of California). Emily and Leo moved 28 times from 1951 to 1957, traveling with seismographic crews around western Canada and the United States. In 1962, Emily and Leo, with their daughter Lorna, became permanent US residents upon moving to Anchorage, Alaska, where they experienced the magnitude 9.2 earthquake in 1964. They later lived in Washington State (birthplace of daughter Heather), California, Texas, and Denmark, before retiring to Canyon Lake, Texas, in 1983, and then moving to Arizona in 1994. Emily volunteered in her daughters' schools and served as a Girl Scout leader for many years. After Leo’s retirement, Emily became a naturalized US citizen, volunteered in the Episcopal Church, and served as the president of the Performing Arts League of the East Valley. Emily is survived by her husband Leo; daughter Heather Horn of Chandler, Arizona; daughter and son-in-law Lorna and Ian Hill and grandsons Cameron and Brandon Hill--all of British Columbia, Canada. She is also survived by her sister Heather (Dwight) Anderson of Ottawa, Ontario; sister Norma (Don) Connick of Gull Lake, Saskatchewan; brother Blaine Harrison of Sifton, Manitoba; brother Lee (Inez) Harrison of Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba; sisters-in-law Margaret and Katie Horn of Winnipeg, Manitoba; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Emily's life will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 9, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 901 W Erie St, Chandler, Arizona.
