Donald Samuel Brokop Sr., age 85, of Sun Lakes, Arizona passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Don was born on Aug.1,1939 in So. Chicago, Illinois. he attended Marsh Elementary and Bowen High Schools where he played three sports, excelling in baseball. He then attended The College of Idaho (Caldwell, Idaho) for one year on combined baseball, football scholarships.
In 1959 Don hired on as a switch man with Chicago W. Pullman 8 Southern Short Line Railroad. He married his high school sweetheart, Bebe, on Sept. 3,1960. They were a good team for 64 years, raising their eight children in Oak Forest, Illinois. Don actually worked two full time jobs for many years. (Day at the Chicago Port and nights sometimes in bitter cold at the Railroad.) In 1995, Don was able to retire from The Chicago Rail Link as President of that railroad.
In March of 2000, Don and Bebe retired to Sun Lakes, Arizona where Don continued working at The Foothills Golf Course, and then Enterprise Car Rental. He was an avid golfer, enjoying the warmth and camaraderie of his fellow golfers as well as the many friends they became acquainted with. Don was extremely talented with art work all his life and enjoyed drawing personal, humorous drawings for those he loved.
Don passed, comfortably and peacefully on September 21,2024, with his loving wife and family nearby. He is survived by his loving wife, Bebe; his dear children, Eileen, Ken, Sam (Jennifer), Jill, Beth (Jeff) Struebing, Don, Jr.(Shannon), Dan (Jaime), James (Lauren), and Daughter In Law, Donna Brokop (A.K.A Shirley); his beloved Grandchildren, Danny, Bryan,Mary (Daniel), Megan,Martin,Tim (Peyton), Kenny, Camille, Logan, Maddie, Chloe, Jillian, Lennon, and Adam; nieces and nephews, Peggy, Ed, Don, Chuck, Todd, and Rob, and Sister-In-Law Candi Brokop (Al). He is preceded in death by his loving mother, Mary and his brother, Al.
