Alfred was born in Ludwigshaven, Germany, to George and Margaret Hammann on July 15, 1926. He graduated from Public School 135 in Union City, New Jersey, and then attended East New York Technical High School. He enlisted in the US Army in August 1944, and then served in the European Theatre, Japanese Command and Republic of Korea where he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He married the love of his life, Vivian Fancher on March 9, 1946. He was honorably discharged from US active military service in August 1954. He worked in US Civil Service as a Security, Intelligence and Planning Officer for 27 years at Yuma Test Station & Proving Ground before retiring in September 1981. He was a member of American Legion Post #35. He enjoyed family gatherings, coaching youth baseball and playing golf.
Alfred is preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Fancher Hammann; parents, George and Margaret Hammann; and his sister, Elsie. Alfred is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Karen Hammann of Gilbert; grandchildren Kevin Hammann and Brittney Caruso of Gilbert; and two great grandchildren Khloee and Braxton.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Valley of the Sun Cemetery in Chandler, Arizona, at 2pm.
