Lois Frances (Villerè) Ragas Tinney, 84 years old, passed away in her home on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, at 3:16 PM in Toca, Louisiana. Lois Tinney is survived by husband, Alton Mark Tinney, Jr.; her five children, Laurie Tinney Bergeron (Harry), Linda Kruse (Stein), Alton Tinney III (Suzette), Leslie Tinney Fountain (Chris), and Mark Tinney; her ten grandchildren, Aaron Bergeron, Brett Bergeron (Ewa), Steven Bergeron (Tyanna), Victoria Kruse, Alexander Kruse, Amanda Villemarette (Leigh), Kelli Tinney, Mark Tinney (Maddie), Austin Tinney (Marissa), and Caroline Boudreaux; her six great-grandchildren, Marcel Bergeron, Noah McDonald, Rex Villemarette, Amelia Tinney, Audrey Tinney, and Klara Tinney; and her three sisters, Audrey Lange (preceded in death), Betty Crawford and Jacqueline Durand.
Lois F. Tinney was born in New Orleans to Jacque Villerè Ragas and Irene Schroeder Ragas on October 4, 1937. She is the great-great granddaughter of Jacque Villerè, the first French, native born Governor of Louisiana. Lois attended Our Lady Star of the Sea and John McDonald in New Orleans. After graduating high school, Lois worked for the New Orleans Police Department as an IBM Operator in the Records Room; later she was an entrepreneur and partner with her husband in law enforcement sales. She married Alton Tinney, Jr. on April 21, 1956, and would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary later this month. She was a devoted wife; dedicated to her family and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Lois enjoyed playing cards, going to the movies and attending car shows, but most of all she loved dancing. She had a great sense of humor and was a very good writer. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. VIRTUE STREET, in Chalmette, from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM. A funeral mass will be held in Lois’ memory at 1:00 PM.
