John Louis Walthers III

John Louis Walthers III passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at the age of 74. He was the beloved husband of 43 years Jo Ann Jones Walthers. Loving father of Jennifer Ann Zuniga (Cody Lee Zuniga). Son of the late John Louis Walthers Jr. and Mary Spera Walthers. Brother of Janet Walthers Huhner (Joseph P. Huhner). Proud grandfather of Harper Sylvie Zuniga and Ava Jo Zuniga. Uncle of Joseph P. Huhner Jr., John L. Huhner, and James M. Huhner. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many cousins, relatives and dear friends.

Born in New Orleans, LA, John was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish before settling in Needville, TX. John's life was filled with diverse experiences and passions. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to own a boutique baby store, and his dedication to serving others saw him excel in various roles, including the insurance industry, the dental supply chain and as a wholesale florist supplier. However, John’s most fulfilling role was his long career with Bandwagon in Chalmette, LA.

A dedicated community member, John was a longtime member of the Arabi Lions Club, where he took on numerous roles and positions, contributing significantly to the club's mission. His love for his heritage was evident in his avid research of family genealogy, a pursuit that brought him great joy and a deeper connection to his roots.

John will be remembered for his generosity, unwavering commitment to his family and community and the warmth he brought to everyone he met. He leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will continue to inspire those who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, August 31st from 11:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a memorial service in John’s memory beginning at 1:00PM. He will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
