Edwin Main Roy, Jr. (“E.M.”), age 83, husband of the late Judy Dutruch Roy, passed away peacefully at his home in Arabi on May 3, 2024. E.M. was born in New Orleans in 1941 and resided in Arabi his entire life. He was the son of the late Edwin Main Roy and Claire Reichert Roy. He is predeceased by his sisters Mazie Roy Doody and Gerry Roy Mathews. He is survived by his sister Claire Roy Landry (Larry). E.M. is also survived by his four children, Darren Michael Roy (Wife Megan Suffern), Rene Denise Roy, Corey Jacob Roy (Husband Doyle White), and Brett William Roy. Loving grandfather of Adam Frederick Roy and Luke Alexander Roy, and brother-in-law of Deborah Dutruch Duperon (Richard).
E.M. had two great loves in his life. The first was his family. He met his wife, Judy, in college and was married to her for 56 years, until her passing in 2021. He enjoyed spending time with his children and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. He had many fond memories of the holidays and special occasions on which the Roy clan and its many branches would gather and celebrate together.
E.M.’s other great love was The St. Bernard Voice, the newspaper for which he served as the owner, editor, and publisher for many years. He started working for the paper as a boy and assumed ownership shortly before his dad’s death in 1975. He was the third generation of Roys to run “The Voice,” which was very much a family affair, and many relatives and friends made substantial contributions of their time and skill to the paper over the course of decades. E.M. felt a tremendous amount of responsibility to do right by the paper and to serve his community well. Although he sold the paper a few years after Hurricane Katrina, he continued to work for it until a few short weeks before his death.
E.M. was much loved by his family, friends, and community. We will miss him dearly.
In keeping with E.M.'s wishes, there will be no public services, only a small private family burial.
