Beryl Jane Gleber passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at the age of 84. She was the loving mother of Sharon A. Fountain (the late Gil) and Chris J. Fountain (Leslie). Daughter of the late Matthew Gleber and Theresa Nuccio Gleber. Sister of Thomas Gleber and the late Ruth Guarino, Matthew Gleber, Nathalie Dillon, Lucille Besnard and Anthony Gleber. Proud grandmother of Christopher J. Fountain Jr., Murphy Jane Acosta, Jared Acosta (Tanya) and Caroline Boudreaux. Great grandmother of Carter Fountain, Ean Kaiser and Isabella Acosta. She is also survived and fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Born in New Orleans, Beryl's journey through life was a testament to resilience, dedication, and love. She peacefully departed this world in Slidell, Louisiana, her heart's final resting place. Beryl's life was a tapestry woven with threads of accomplishment and warmth. For two decades, she passionately served as a real estate broker in St. Bernard Parish. To Beryl, her skill in real estate felt more like a gift and her passion to help so many families find their dream homes. A trailblazer in every sense, Beryl shattered glass ceilings as the first woman to establish and own a construction company in St. Bernard Parish, inspiring generations to come.
Her devotion extended beyond the professional realm. Beryl's unwavering commitment to her faith was a guiding light. Her presence in her beloved church was felt in her every prayer and gesture. A woman of simple pleasures, Beryl found joy in life's little treasures, appreciating every moment as a gift to be cherished. Beryl never met a stranger and her community involvement was extensive, marked by her tenure as the president of the Woman's Council of Realtors and her leadership as the president of Our Lady of Prompt Succor PTA. She believed in the power of unity and tirelessly worked to create spaces where voices were heard and dreams nurtured.
Away from the hustle and bustle, Beryl found solace in the virtual world of poker and casino games, all played from the comfort of her computer. She found connection in the digital realm, relishing the messages that poured in from friends and family on Facebook, a testament to the relationships she fostered. She was an avid Saints fan and loved attending the parades during Mardi Gras. As a young soul, Beryl reveled in the simple joys of life. Escaping to the lake with her siblings and visiting St. Joseph's altars each year, she was always proud of her family and their individual accomplishments. Those cherished memories molded her into the woman she became. Her parents' golden 50th wedding anniversary was a beacon of love that illuminated her path. However, Beryl's greatest source of happiness came from her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother. The love she shared with her descendants knew no bounds, and the memories she created with them will forever be etched in their hearts.
In celebration of her life, we gather to remember a remarkable woman. Beryl's legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the imprints she left behind. As we bid her farewell, let us carry forth her spirit of resilience, unity, and unwavering love for the simple pleasures that make life truly beautiful. Rest in peace, dear Beryl. Your memory will forever be a source of inspiration and comfort to all who had the pleasure of knowing you.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Tuesday, September 5th from 11:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a Memorial Mass in Beryl’s memory beginning at 1:00PM.
