James Perry of Centreville, Alabama passed away on November 21, 2021 after a valiant battle with lymphoma. He was born March 18, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY. He attended Columbia Bible College in Columbia, SC where he met his wife, Peggy. After their marriage June 9, 1956, James transferred to
Covenant College in St. Louis, MO where he graduated in 1960. He then attended Covenant Theological Seminary where he graduated in 1964 and then accepted his first pastorate in Seaside Heights, NJ and became an ordained minister in March 1965. During his career he pastored churches in Kearney, NE; Hastings, NE; Indianapolis, IN; Colorado Springs, CO; York, AL where he also served as an administrator at Hill Hospital; Grenada, MS; Russellville, AR; and Brent, AL. After his retirement in October 2004 he became the evangelist for Warrior Presbytery, Presbyterian Church of America to oversee smaller churches and investigate church planting. He served as an interim pastor or pulpit supply for churches in Boligee, Camden, Greensboro, Marion, Selma, and until earlier this year Emele. He authored 16 books, and he loved to proclaim Gods word anywhere, anytime and anyplace.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Peggy Ann Fry Perry and by his children Beth Barron and her husband, Joe, of Schertz, TX, Andy Perry and his wife, Libby, of Montgomery, AL, Martha Davis of Centreville, AL, Rebecca Taggart and her husband, Tim, of Starkville, MS, 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Kuttruf of Jamestown, NC and sister-in-law Mary Lee Walker and her husband, Ed, of Columbia, SC as well as nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents Wilson and Barbara Perry, brother Richard Perry, son-in-law Rocky Buice and great grandson Keaton Barron.
Funeral Service is scheduled for Friday, November 26th at Brent Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 10am-11am, with service beginning at 11am. Burial to follow at Bethel Cemetery in Brent, Alabama
In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Palmer Home and French Camp.
