Charles "Charley" Edward Jay Sr., age 90, of Brent, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at his home, which was one of his last wishes with his family by his side. Charles was born August 22, 1930 in Tuscaloosa, AL and moved to a farm on the outskirts of Greensboro, AL at the age 12. He graduated from Greensboro High School in 1950. He worked for his father at Jay's Ice Cream Plant. Charles married Shirley Faye Snipes in 1954 and they moved to Demopolis, AL. He became a fixture in the real estate business and community. He was a pilot of single engine planes. When Shirley passed away, he moved into his father in law, Luther Snipes' homeplace where he enjoyed gardening and small community life. He is survived by his sons, Chuck Jay(Shirley) of Northport and George Luther Jay(Laquitta) of Demopolis; daughter, Lesa Jay Fink(Ivan) of Centreville; sister, Edna Owens of Newbern;
7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and a special friend, Della Clausen. He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Faye Jay and his parents, George Hebert Jay and Marjorie Orr Jay.
A visitation for Charley will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home Chapel, Centreville, Alabama. Funeral service at 1:00 PM with burial in Friendship Cemetery in Brent, AL. Chuck Jay officiating. Family members will service as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers, Hospice of West Alabama.
