Lee was born Dec. 6, 1942, to Don and Wanda Coumbs in Opportunity, Washington, and lived most of his growing up years in Newport, Washington. He married his high school sweetheart, (Martha) Marty Allen, on June 8, 1963. During their 52 years they raised 2 daughter, Becky and LeAnn, while serving the city of Centralia.
Lee was not one to sit still. Along with his career in teaching with the Centralia School District and Centralia College, he was also manager for the Southwest Washington Fair, manager of Downey’s Auto Center, and owner of Sausage House and Deli; he founded the Spring Youth Fair and Borst Park Christmas Lights. Lee became the first Mayor when Centralia changed its form of Government, and helped create Summerfest and the Riverside Fire Authority. He served on many boards and belonged to several organizations.
On August 28,2016 he married Bonnie Canaday; she was Mayor of Centralia and Lee was the Mayor Pro Tem. They became Mr. & Mrs. Centralia, and with their love for each other and Centralia continued to serve when and where needed when they weren’t traveling the world! The last 8 plus years were filled with creating new memories and new experiences.
Lee is survived by his wife Bonnie, daughters Becky (Rick) Gilham and LeAnn (Ron) Rupke; four granddaughters Katie (Kyle) Saari, Lauren (Michael) Morikawa, Andrea (Brian) Smith, Julia Rupke; and six great-grandchildren. When he married Bonnie, he gained two more children: Linda (Rick) Lee and Paul Canaday; six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Roy (Judy) Coumbs. Though Lee is now home with our Lord, his involvement in the community and lives of others will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
Arrangements are in the care of Sticklin Funeral Chapel.
