A West Baton Rouge Parish native and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, Don made the most of this Sportsman’s Paradise. Some of his fondest memories and closest friendships were formed sitting in deer stands and bass boats across Louisiana and Texas. He was a US Navy Veteran who retired from ExxonMobil after 39 years’ service. He was of Baptist faith.
Don is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Gail Swanson, daughter Brooke Nicole Swanson, and grandson Noah Allen Frusha. He also leaves behind his sister, Betty Knapp and her husband Steve; and sisters-in-law, Emily Swanson and Leona Swanson.
Don will be remembered by family and friends as a truly kind, generous, and funny man. He was a wonderful man whom you could always count on, and the world is smaller without him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eric Gustave Swanson Sr. and mother, Inez St. Romain Casey, his half-sisters Ida Mae Martello, Wilhelmina Hurling, Jane Cohen, Gloria Lichenwater, and Izarona Adams; and half-brothers Eric Swanson, Jr., Carl Swanson, Ernest Swanson, and Johnny West.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation which will be held on Wednesday, November 10, at Central Funeral Home. Visitation begins at 11:00am, lunch will be available at 12:00 noon. Funeral service will begin at 1:00pm, Pastor Terry Swanson will officiate.
Burial will follow at the Louisiana National Cemetery, 303 W. Pleasant Rd., Zachary, LA 70791. CENTRAL FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
