Born January 26, 1934, to Marvin and Joyce Miller, Bob Miller lived a life of faith, love, and service to others. He died peacefully at age 90, on November 16, 2024. Bob was a native of Franklinton, Louisiana, and in September 1956 he married the love of his life, Marilyn Beth Bahm. They began married life in Manhattan, Kansas where Bob served in the Army at Fort Riley. After serving his country, the couple returned to Louisiana and settled in Baton Rouge.
A football scholarship to Pearl River Junior College was the beginning of Bob’s educational journey. He continued his education by earning a bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Louisiana University and later, a master’s degree from Louisiana State University. Teaching was his first profession, and he went on to work with Louisiana Vocational Rehabilitation services. However, Bob spent most of his career serving the patients of the Gillis W. Long Hansen’s Disease Center in Carville, Louisiana. He was recognized as an advocate for the patients and a fair, compassionate leader. Bob led by example through active participation in his church until his health declined, serving in leadership roles at both Trinity Presbyterian and Broadmoor Presbyterian Churches. For 20 years, Bob volunteered with Southeast Ministries Association Food Bank and served as President of the Board of Directors for a time. Bob was known for his welcoming spirit and positive nature, never meeting a stranger. He enjoyed sports, travel, raising cattle, antiques, and was a fan of westerns. Family was the center of Bob’s life, and he treasured time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Bob was a blessing to his family and is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marilyn Beth Bahm Miller; sons, Kenny Miller (Mary) and Greg Miller (Mona), and daughter, Gwen Miller Moore (Will). He is also survived by grandchildren, Daniel Miller (Julie), Kellie Miller Engels, Rachel Miller Smiley (Dillon), Cooper Moore (Shelby), Brad Miller (Kennedy), and Caleb Moore (Madison). He was fortunate to have eight great-grandchildren, Cain and Charlie Engels, Eli and Harper Smiley, Kathryn Miller, Trip Miller, Henry Moore, and Emma Moore.
Visitation will be November 20, 2024 at Central Funeral Home, 9995 Hooper Road, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The funeral service led by Rev. Monya Crowell will begin at 11 AM, followed by burial in the Arcola-Roseland Cemetery in Roseland, Louisiana.
