Richard A. Peterson Sr.

Richard A Peterson Sr., a lifelong resident of Old Saybrook, passed away peacefully at Middlesex Hospital on Thursday, January 11, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Kathleen Peterson (Rogers).

He was born on September 24, 1949, son of the late Elmer Peterson and Charlotte Parsons (McGrath). Richard was the loving father of Ervin Peterson, (Kim) of Cheshire, Richard Peterson Jr., (Angel) of Norfolk, Virginia, and Robert Peterson, (Marsha) of Old Saybrook. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Richard also leaves his brother, Robert Peterson and wife Toni and his sister Doreen Porter and husband John as well as many nieces and nephews and good friends. Richard served as a volunteer firefighter for Old Saybrook for 36 years. During his 36 years of service, he was awarded 4 longevity awards. He was voted to Veterans List in 2016. Richard was retired from the Old Saybrook Public Works and M&J Bus Company. He enjoyed camping, riding his Harley, spending time with family and friends as well as enjoying his grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 10:00AM to 11:30AM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. A graveside service will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Sheffield Street in Old Saybrook at 12:00PM.
