Vilette was born on her parents 60 acre farm in Indiana in December 1930. In 1964, she married her soul mate, Richard L. Ross, and to them were born two daughters - Susan and Carol.
At the age of 5, Vilette began piano lessons and music remained one of her main interests through her life. In high school she was pianist for the Union High School Chorus. She attended Arthur Jordan Conservatory during high school, participating in many recitals. She graduated from Ball State Teacher's College and obtained a Master's degree in Music Education from the University of Arizona. She was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha and Sigma Alpha Iota, music honorary, as well as a number of other education and music organizations.
Vilette taught public school music, grades 1 through 8, in Indiana and Arizona. She also taught in Maryland and Wisconsin. She was on the staff of the Interlochen National Music Camp for 5 summers, first as a counselor, then as Assistant Director of Junior Girls Division. After moving to Phoenix, she was the piano accompanist for First Christian Church Choir.
Vilette has taught Sunday School classes, served as a Deaconess and Sunday School Superintendent, as well as being a choir member in a number of churches. For more than fifteen years she led a ladies' neighborhood Bible study, teaching the unconditional love and grace of God, and encouraging everyone to study the Bible on their own. She had a born-again personal relationship with Christ Jesus, and believed and trusted in His spirit filled abiding life.
Her life delight and joy besides her husband and daughters, were her granddaughters, Elaine, Natalie, and Katherine of Colorado; grandson, Peter of Virginia; and granddaughters, Anna and Emily of Virginia.
Her humility, enthusiasm, optimism, courage, devotion to her faith, kind and generous spirit, delicious cooking, and encouraging words will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
