May 3, 2020 after a long illness. He was surrounded by his loving family during his last months, who tenderly cared for him during his final days.
Tom grew up in Pueblo, CO, attended Pueblo Catholic High School and then Regis College in Denver where he earned a BA in Sociology and Philosophy. He continued his education in Latin American Studies at the University of the Americas in Mexico City before returning to join the Colorado National Guard. Tom loved learning and pursued teaching social studies while obtaining a pilot’s license and becoming a flight instructor. His longest career path of 20 years was in sales, where he attained the rank of Western Regional Sales Manager for Lever Brothers. He spent the next 20 years as both an entrepreneur and a manager for the Denver Housing Authority before retiring.
Even with all these accomplishments, however, he would proudly boast that his greatest achievement was being the patriarch of seven wonderful children. Together with his devoted wife of 48 years, Debbie they raised their large family in Denver’s Park Hill neighborhood and then Highlands Ranch. Tom was a man of a deep faith, involved in countless charitable endeavors and community outreach. Tom was curious and full of wonder. Not only did he love to learn about any possible subject, but also about each person he ever met. With his inquisitive nature, he made every person he encountered feel special and important… a rare gift.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Agnes Murphy Beatty, and his siblings, Mary Patricia (Pat) Rotherham, Charles F. Beatty, Jr. and Sarah (Sally) R. Beatty. He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Quinn Beatty and their seven children: Army Col. Charles (Sarah)
Beatty of Highlands Ranch; Bridget Beatty (Tim Aex) of Highlands Ranch and currently New Zealand; Kevin Beatty (Angie) of Denver; Meghan Klassen (Matthew) of Denver; Conor Beatty (Katie) of Omaha, NE; Michael Beatty (Anna Szysznia) of Denver; and Erin Mariathasan (Marion) of Denver. He also is survived by 17 beautiful grandchildren who called him “Papa Tom.”
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the funeral will be a small ceremony for immediate family only at Saint Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Denver. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be announced.
To honor his lifelong passion for learning and commitment to the marginalized, the family has established a scholarship fund in his name to assist low-income students to attend Regis Jesuit High School. Donations and memorial gifts can be sent to www.regisjesuit.com/memorialgiving.
