Born on May 18, 1942, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Mary was the beloved daughter of Richard “Dick” Park Davis and Mary “Babe” Louise Davis.
Mary devoted 33 years as the Music & Arts Director at First Plymouth Congregational Church in Englewood, Colorado. She took great joy in leading the adult, youth, and children’s choirs, and skillfully coordinated music for every service, including organ, brass, and piano performances. In 1989, she led her adult choir on a memorable tour through Germany, Austria, and Hungary, performing in several historic cathedrals. An accomplished educator, Mary privately taught piano, organ, and voice, with a special affection for her young students. Following her retirement, she continued her passion for teaching as a PARA (teacher assistant) at Deer Creek Elementary, where she touched the lives of many young children in kindergarten.
Mary earned her bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Colorado Boulder and her Master of Music degree from the University of New Mexico, with further studies toward her doctorate. Her musical talents extended beyond performance; she composed several pieces and arrangements, including the opera Columbine, co-written with Johanna Sampson in Boulder, Colorado.
Mary cherished her role as a grandmother, delighting in activities with her grandsons, Curtis and Cayden. Her other passion was her many dogs including Marley, Mac and Rudy. She also had a deep love for the Colorado mountains, where she enjoyed camping, off-roading, fishing and hiking through historic mining towns. Her enthusiasm for Colorado history was a lifelong passion. Mary greatly enjoyed playing bingo and enjoyed outings to Blackhawk with her dear friend Lois.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Melissa Davis, and her two grandsons, Curtis and Cayden Louk. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mary Davis.
A memorial service will be held at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary located at 6601 South Colorado Boulevard Centennial, Colorado 80121 on September 6th, 2024 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation to be made in her honor to the Intermountain Humane Society in Pine, Colorado.
