Martha was born on September 1, 1924 in Brush to Eva Michel and Karl Baumgartner, who were first-generation Germans from Russia. After graduation from Prospect Valley High School, she moved to Denver and lived the rest of her life in the metro area. During her long career, she worked at the Internal Revenue Service, Bragdon’s Appliances, the Colorado Nurses Association, and the Water Department of the City of Aurora. For many years, she was an active member of the congregation of the Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church.
Martha was preceded in death by John, her beloved husband of 62 years, and by her brothers Leonard, Dave, Herman, Charley and Reuben and by her sisters Lydia and Esther. She is survived by her son Randy and his wife Jackie of Madison County, Virginia, and by many cherished nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear friend and “adopted” daughter Bev Maley.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 11 at 10 a.m. at Olinger Chapel Hill, with a memorial service at 11 a.m.; reception to follow. Martha had requested that “flowers be kept to a minimum”. Please consider a contribution to your favorite charity in her memory.
