Judith Lee Bertram passed away Friday, May 25, 2018 at the age of 75. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Judy spent most of her life in Glendale, California, where she raised four children before living her later years in Littleton, Colorado. Judy received a BA from the University of California Los Angeles and an RN in Nursing from Pasadena Community College. A surgical nurse for more than 20 years, Judy loved working at Methodist Hospital in Arcadia and following that, took great pride in her career as a clinical applications specialist at Barlow Respiratory Hospital in Los Angeles. She continued her nursing career in Colorado and happily volunteered for several years at her grandson’s elementary school.
Judy was fiercely independent and extremely well-read, and was always proud to say that she raised successful college graduates in her four children. Judy especially loved babies and doted on her grandchildren. She could often be found with a neighborhood child sitting on her bathroom counter while she tended to scrapes and cuts or removed stitches, and was the late-night call for the neighborhood moms. She loved her Southern California beach days, was an avid runner and gardener, was passionate about travel and shared many of her global adventures with her mother, Esther Bryman McVickar, whom she talked to every night until she passed in 2009.
Judy will be deeply missed by her four children, Kim Rasmussen, Michael Bertram (Lynn), Steven Bertram (Natalie Gorman), and Cindy Bertram (Michael McCarthy), along with her eight grandchildren Dakota, Molly, Alex, Steven, Joey, Matthew, Nicholas and Nathaniel, and her brother Michael D. Bryman (Jan Handlers).
The family would like to thank Human Network Systems, Home Instead Senior Care, Cherry Hills Assisted Living and Memory Care, and Suncrest Hospice for caring for Judy. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
