Reverend James Hamilton Morgan was born on May 9, 1931, in Waco, Texas, the third of 5 children born to Wilvesta Morgan and Mary Williams. He was raised in Texas until 1957 when he met love of his life, Vator (Jenkins) Morgan. They were married and moved to Denver, Colorado in 1958. Together they have lovingly raised two sons, Jason and Tyval.
Kindness and compassion were traits that he carried with him as he served with the United States Postal Service for 37 years until his retirement in 1997. Rev. Morgan was ordained as a minister in 1972 and called to pastor Bethel Church of Christ Holiness in 1974 where he served faithfully until 1982.
Many knew him as a gentle, kind, humble, wise and loving man of God. He was a lifelong learner and avid reader who could expound on the writings of Plato from a biblical perspective while discussing the ups and downs of the stock market and current events. He saw people through the eyes of the Lord and God’s love radiated through every interaction with him. His love for others extended beyond his family to include his god daughters, Tara (deceased) and Tracey Grant. He was considered “dad” to many, including Cheryl (Charles) Ashley, Kenneth Morgan and Hattie Morgan.
Early in the morning on October 7, 2019, the Lord said, “Well done my good and faithful servant,” and Rev. Morgan transitioned quietly from this life as we know it. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 siblings, Grace Harmon and Wilvesta, Jr., and 2 infant children. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Vator; sons, Jason and Tyval; brother Lloyd (Nina) and sister Myrtis Robinson of Texas as well as a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral service will take place at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 14, 2019 at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 South Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121.
