Harold Edward Walker

Harold Edward Walker passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on August 11, 2022 at Littleton Adventist Hospital in Littleton CO. Born in Windsor, he was a lifelong resident of Colorado, with his last 2 years spent at Marion Manor in Centennial CO. He was born on March 5, 1926, son of John and Elizabeth Ruff Walker. After graduation from Windsor High School during WWII, Harold joined the Navy Seabees and was sent to the South Pacific, where he worked on base facilities building pontoons and causeways during the Okinawa invasion and on other islands including Guam before and after the Japanese surrender. He achieved the rank of 3rd Class Carpenter. After his Honorable Discharge in 1946, he worked for Underwood Typewriter Co., later had a long career as a cement mason in and around Denver. He was a 60-year member of the Colorado Operative Plasterer’s and Cement Masons’ Union, where he served various offices including recording secretary for many years. He was a member of the American Lutheran Memorial Church prior to its closure where he served on the Church Council.

Harold married Alice Clara Laubhan of Windsor CO on Feb 5, 1949, and they settled in Denver where they lived together until her death in June of 1995. In his younger years, Harold enjoyed fishing and snow skiing with friends & family, and in later years focused much of his time on family genealogy. With the help of the American Society of Germans from Russia, a group in which he held office, he was able to trace his Walker roots back to the 1700’s. He loved getting together with the Walker & Laubhan families and attending family reunions. He also enjoyed gardening, especially his beautiful roses, and was always at his grandchildren’s home sporting events.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Alice, and his younger brother Elmer. He is survived by his son Jay (Barbara) Walker of Lewisburg WV and daughter Jayne (Randy) Heath of Highland Ranch CO, 5 grandchildren: Jeremy (Megan) Walker of Cleveland OH, Stephanie (Devon) Walker of Charleston WV, James Heath of Glenwood Springs CO, Jared (Lindsey) Heath of Highland Ranch CO, Jessie Heath of Denver CO., and 4 great-grandchildren: William Walker, Adalyn Heath, Amber Heath, and Benjamin Walker. Also left to cherish his memory is his beloved sister Arnetta Hass of Denver CO, many nieces, nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Aug 22 at 10am, at Olinger Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 6601 So Colorado Blvd, Littleton CO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church at 2300 So. Patton Ct, Denver 80219
