Frances Arbaleta Sims, age 91, entered her Heavenly home on Monday, April 27, 2020 at The Denver Hospice Care Center in Denver, Colorado.
Frances was born November 10, 1928, to Elbert & Hazel Wommack, of Fair Grove, Missouri. She had two older siblings, Curtis and Evalee. Later a baby brother, Toby, was born. Frances always loved to take care of him and continued "to mother" him all of his life. She attended school in Fair Grove, except for the short time her and her family lived in California. Frances completed school in Fair Grove and graduated in 1946.
On Sept. 15, 1947 Frances married William (Bill) R. Sims. After their wedding they made their home in her parent's home. In June of 1950 they made a drastic change and decided to move to Denver, Colorado. Their home was blessed on March 28, 1951 with the birth of their first son, Gary Daniel. On April 4, 1956 another blessing was added to their home with the birth of their second son, Randy Mack.
Frances was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was kept busy raising two active sons and making sure they had her homemade cookies. Her Cowboy Cookies have always been a favorite. She daily packed Bill his lunch to take to work and it always included some of her cookies. She never worked outside of the home while raising her boys.
She was such a gentle and loving person to everyone she met. Ephesians 4:32 is a verse that describes how she lived. " and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."
To bring in extra income she began doing ironing in her home for several people. Much later on she began babysitting outside of her home for a few days each week. Because of her grandmotherly style of childcare she was very loved by every family she sat for and was very much in demand.
If you were family, a friend, or someone she had baby sat for, you could always count on getting a birthday card or anniversary card from Frances. She had a calendar hanging in her kitchen with everyone's birthday and anniversaries written on it and she updated it every year. Every one of us who received those cards has missed getting them these last few years.
Serving God was the most important thing in her life. As a young child she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and served Him always. She loved the days when she could be singing a duet or singing in the choir at church. For many years she was a faithful and active member of Littleton First Assembly of God and later became a member of Family Worship Center that was at the same location. If the doors of the church were open she would be there. She missed being able to attend church and missed her church family when her health made it impossible for her to be there. She was definitely a prayer warrior and her prayers for each of us will be greatly missed.
On June 21, 2013 her life drastically changed when her husband, Bill, suffered a stroke and had to move to a nursing facility. She was totally lost without him. After his death she was adamant about selling her home. After visiting several assisted living facilities she made the decision to move to Libby Bortz. While visiting the facility, a lady told her how they played Bingo almost every day there. We are all pretty sure that is why she chose this place. She loved to play Bingo and that was a highlight of her days while there. After a fall, her health deteriorated and it became necessary to move her to Sunrise at Cherry Creek in Denver, Colorado where she resided until her death.
She met a very special friend, Joy, while at Sunrise. This friendship was a gift from God for Frances and also for her family. It was such a comfort to her family to know that she wasn't alone there because they spent every day and every meal in the company of each other.
Those left to cherish her memories are her two sons and their wives, Gary and Kathy of Burlington, Colorado and Randy and Leslie of Englewood, Colorado; her four grandchildren: Matt Sims and his wife Adriane, Erika Duke and her husband Ryan, Nathan Sims and Phillip Sims; her nine great-grandchildren: Lexie Sims, Brinley Sims, Lakyn Sims, Witten Duke, Maclin Duke, Porter Duke, Ira Duke, Yasmine Sims and Zoe Sims. Along with many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill; her parents, Elbert and Hazel (Haun) Wommack; two brothers, Curtis Wommack and his wife Mary Lou, and Toby Wommack; one sister, Evalee and her husband Carl Yarbrough; Sister-in Law Joyce Wommack; two nephews: Ralph Wommack and Stephen Wommack.
