Elmer was born July 1, 1922 in Obion County, Tennessee. He passed away peacefully at the VA Home in Denver, Colorado on Monday, August 19, 2019. Elmer and Allene McTernan were married on August 6th, 1941 and celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary just prior to Allene’s death in August, 1995. They had three children, Doris Anne, Wanda Gayle and Ricky Alan.
Elmer is survived by his son, three sisters, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.
In his early life, Elmer was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and play golf. In his “golden years” he took joy and comfort being with friends and family.
Elmer took pride in providing for his family through his career with the U.S. Postal Service. He retired from the Postal Service in 1976 as a Tour Foreman at the Terminal Annex in Denver, Colorado.
Elmer served in the U.S. Army for a brief period during WWII and has supported The Wounded Warrior Project for the past few years.
A grave side service will take place for Elmer at 10:00am Monday, August 26th, 2019 at Chapel Hill Cemetery located at 6601 South Colorado Blvd in Centennial, CO 80121. In lieu of flowers, or other remembrances, Elmer has asked that contributions be made to The Wounded Warrior Project in his name.
