Dorothy Marie Gates

Dorothy Marie Gates, age 93, passed away on November 8, 2017. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ada Marie (Baker) and John Jay Campbell; brothers, Harry and Robert Bruce Campbell; sister, Ethel Hurst; and grandsons, Joey and D Headley. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 72 years, Vernon Gates; children, Janice (Don) Shaffer, Kathleen (Dana) Gabriel, David (Patricia) Gates and Tammi (Randy) Gates; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy taught first grade Sunday School for over 20 years and enjoyed crocheting hats and mittens. She made them by the 100s and gave them away. She made comfort quilts for the Sheridan Police Department and made baby clothes for Inter Faith. She baked and decorated birthday, wedding and all-occasion cakes that were so good, one family would order a birthday cake and fly it to another state for their daughter's birthday! Dorothy was also a big Broncos fan, even when they weren't winning.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Spirit of Hope United Methodist Church, 3885 S Broadway, Englewood, CO 80113. A private, family burial took place at Olinger Chapel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dorothy’s name to Spirit of Hope United Methodist Church.
