Daniel Martin Taylor, Sr, age 93, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado passed peacefully away on November 20, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. He spent the day playing bridge and going to lunch with family and good friends where all were engaged in sharing stories and laughter. In his words, “This was a great day!”
Dan was born in Kansas City, Kansas on June 27, 1928. He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952 with an ‘all-expense paid’ trip to Korea. He loved our great country and was very proud to have served. He was preceded in death by wife Betty (Howard), parents Charles and Rose, brothers Edward and James and step-son-in-law Angel Molina.
He is survived by his son Daniel “Danny” Taylor, daughter Deborah “Debbie” Maynard (Paul), sister Mary Anne Stengel, step-daughter Cari-Daye Molina, step-grandson Taylor Molina and former wife Judy Matthews.
Dan and Betty married in 1957 and moved the family to Colorado in 1974 with his job at Continental Insurance Company. He retired in 1990 and they pursued their dream of traveling to significant historical sites in the United States and Hawaii with favorite destinations of San Francisco to visit Danny and Las Vegas where Dan usually ‘beat the house’ at Blackjack. Another favorite destination was Vail which became a family reunion every summer as siblings Dan, Jim and Mary Anne would gather with their families to swap tales of yore, laugh and make new memories.
After Betty’s death in 1995, Dan volunteered with Hospice for many years, joined a bowling league, learned the game of bridge and became a competitive player, director of social bridge games and an instructor for new and advanced students.
He married Judy Matthews in 1998 and they spent their time going to the theatre, cruising and more travel, including Italy. They separated in 2015.
Dan trusted fully in our Lord God and was proud to be a cradle Catholic, especially after attending a Welcome Home program where he learned more about the richness and beauty that this faith offers. He loved music and remained dedicated to the KC Chiefs and Royals even after moving away. As a husband, father and friend he was devoted, dependable and loyal. He is remembered for his smile, his sense of humor, his integrity and his sweet way of making connections with friends and strangers.
