Charles Howard (Howie) Kelsall of Cherry Hills Village, was born on the family homestead outside of Boulder, Colorado on November 16, 1922. He was the son of Charles Alderson Kelsall and Helen Lousena Hiatt. A graduate of Boulder High School, he went on to attend the University of Colorado for both undergraduate and medical school, receiving his MD degree in 1946. He spent the next two years serving as an Army medic while stationed in Europe. He returned to Denver and completed his pediatric residency at the Children's Hospital in 1951. Children's Hospital was also where he met a beautiful nurse, who became the love of his life, Helen Elizabeth Fowler, and they were married on October 19, 1951. Life for the next several decades revolved around his successful pediatric practice in Englewood, and Helen and his growing family. He is survived by his four children and their spouses: Amy Elizabeth Kelsall, Denver, CO, Douglas and Pamela Kelsall, Cherry Hills, CO, David and Tammie Hand Kelsall, Englewood, CO, and Brian Kelsall and Cathleen Clancy, Washington, DC, and 8 wonderful grandchildren, Brent, Matt, Alyson, Emily, Alex, Tyler, Colin and Nora. Howie was a charter member of the Arapahoe Sertoma Club since 1952. He spent countless hours volunteering including serving as the team doctor for Englewood High School football team (19 years), participating in the Doctor's Care Program, helping to establish the Arapahoe Rescue Patrol, and reading to students at Clayton Elementary School. He received numerous awards for his service, most recently Arapahoe Sertoman of the Year for 2010. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, and poker player. His life was focused on caring for children and their families in Englewood during his almost 50 years of pediatric practice, serving his community, and loving his wife, children, and grandchildren.
