Catherine M. Young

Catherine (Cathy) Marie Young departed this life on March 17, 2013 at her home in Highlands Ranch, Colorado at age 71. Cathy was born 2/15/42 in Kansas City, Missouri to Thomas Jefferson Nolen and Mary Lucinda Nolen; both whom preceded her in death.

Cathy was married to her loving and devoted husband, Henry for 49 years, just shy of their Golden Anniversary.

Cathy was an active alumni member of the Lincoln High School Class of 1960 in Kansas City, Missouri, and at one time served as president of ‘The Ladies of 1960’s’. She continued close relationships with many of her classmates.

Cathy retired after a 30-year career with the Social Security Administration. Cathy’s strong, positive outlook and her constant strive for success led her to many promotions and positions within the Administration. One of Cathy’s proudest achievements was receiving The Governors’ Citation Award. Another proud milestone in her career was when she pursued, as she always did and became an investigator with the Social Security Administration after graduating from intense training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glenco, Georgia.

Along with Cathy’s training with the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, she earned an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, as well as numerous other fields of study .

With her strong will, determination and high achievement goals she earned numerous accolades and awards through the Social Security Administration, which included; The Governors’ Citation Award, SSA Commissioners’ Award, Special Achievement Award, Employee of the month, Colorado Scholars award and Interscholastic Art Award.

Cathy was a long and faithful member of St. Thomas More where she served as a Lecture and Eucharistic Minister.

Well known for her stylish ways and creativities she had many talents. Cathy found much joy in her sewing (which included her custom drapery entrepreneur), home decorating, cooking, bowling and the great outdoors including camping, fishing, skiing, ice skating and swimming. One of her great adventure travels included a trip to Nigeria.

In Retirement years Cathy contributed some of her life by volunteering with meals on wheels, voter polling and census worker.

Cathy leaves behind, her husband Henry, daughters; Rhonda Ahanotu (spouse: Amy Ahanotu) & Robin Smith (spouse: Broderick Smith), son; Steven Young (spouse: Janice Young), brothers; Thomas Nolen, Glen Nolen & Ronald Nolen, sisters; Sherry Nolen & Gail Crosby. Cathy is preceded in death by several sisters; Carolyn Bernard, Vivian Jackson, Avalon Matczynski, Jacquelyn Abston & Donna Emory, grandchildren; Onyemaechi Ahanotu, Ashley Young, Matthew Smith, Steven Young Jr., April Montoya-Collis, Chimaechi Ahanotu, Chardonnay Young & Jessica Smith, great- grandchildren; Tyana Renee Oats & Sprinter Santiago Montoya-Collis, and many nieces, nephews & friends.

I’m at rest, so don’t cry. It will be easier as time goes by.

I’ve done my best to live a good life.

For I knew if I did, I would be with God.

As my body lies there, it’s only a shell.

God has called me home, and my job I’ve done well.

For the things I’ve done wrong, I did repent.

Now I’m happy with Jesus and very content.

As I see your faces, that makes me sad.

But I have made it, and for that I am glad!

You know and I know that it’s hard on earth.

So you shouldn’t cry at death, but at birth.

I have no more worries, pain or fears.

I’m with God, so dry your tears.

I love you all, and this is what I want you to do….

PUT GOD FIRST IN YOUR LIFE,
