Rose Sweeney Hsu (affectionately known as Hee-Hee and Ro Ro), 64, passed away at home in Catonsville, MD on Tuesday, February 18th with family by her side. She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Albert; her son Joe and daughter-in-law Maria; her daughter Cathy and partner Lucas; her daughter Becky; and her grandchildren, Matthew, Oobie, and Thomas. She was preceded in death by her son Matthew Chen.
Rose was born on Staten Island, NY to Regina and John G. Sweeney on April 14, 1955. She was beloved by her large family, including her 9 siblings, 38 nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Rose, in turn, cared for and cherished her family and dear friends. She was a graduate of Cleveland Heights High School, Williams College, Northwestern University, where she earned a Masters in Education, and the University of Michigan, where she earned a Masters in Economics. She was by nature a life-long educator, touching the lives of everyone she met through her teaching, tutoring, and church involvement. She was a champion of people with disabilities. She loved spending time with her younger sister Terese, with whom she shared a unique bond. They had a lot of fun together. Rose found strength in her Catholic faith and loved books, music, singing, gardening, sign language, genealogy, and walks with her husband and dog Benny. She will be greatly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:15 a.m. at The Mount, home of the Oblate Sisters of Providence, on Saturday, February 22, 701 Gun Road, Baltimore.
