Mary Agnes Donovan (née Sweeney), aged 94, of Catonsville, MD, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2024 at Brightview Senior Living Memory Care Unit where she was tenderly cared for by an extraordinary team of human beings. Born on December 15, 1929, in Tamaqua, PA, she was the cherished wife of the late Bill Donovan, with whom she celebrated 72 years of marriage.
Before marrying and as a young adult, Mary was employed at Genetti's Super Market and Lazarchick's Music Store in her hometown. She embraced her role as a homemaker, nurturing her children with devotion before rejoining the workforce. Her professional journey concluded with a commendable 18-year tenure at Giant Food on Ingleside Avenue, from which she retired.
A devout Catholic, Mary was a 1948 graduate of St. Jerome Catholic School in Tamaqua. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Joined in matrimony to Bill in 1951, the couple established their family in Baltimore and became active members of St. Agnes Catholic Church.
Mary's life was rich with joy derived from simple pleasures: cherishing moments with her grandchildren, engaging in creative pursuits such as sewing, crocheting, and ceramics, and finding delight in collecting Norman Rockwell pieces. Alongside Bill, she traveled and shared in the adventure of life.
She leaves behind her sons, Bill (Nancy), Brian (Karen), Richard (Donna), Russell, and David (Toni). Her memory will be fondly carried on by her grandchildren, Ryan (Deb), Megan (Chase), Brian (Jordan), Amy (Will), Rachel (Will), Amanda, and Scott; her great-grandchildren, Madison, Bennett, Trey, Anna, Kierna, and Kyric; and her caring nieces, Donna Stolarcyk and Lisa Sweeney, and tenderhearted cousin Patricia Connor, RSHM. She is reunited in Heaven with her parents, Joseph and Mary Irene Shire Sweeney, and siblings, Joseph, Patrick, Genevieve (Jennie), Robert, Mildred, Mary, Cecelia and James.
The Donovan family will receive friends and relatives for a visitation 10:30-11:00 on July 22, 2024 at Sterling-Ashton-Schwab-Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville, Inc., 1630 Edmondson Avenue Catonsville, MD 21228. Prayers will follow at 11:30AM. Interment in Garrison Forest Veteran Cemetery.
Mary Agnes Donovan will be remembered not only for her unwavering faith and love of family but also for the light and joy she brought to the lives of all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
