Elizabeth (Lizzy,Betty) was born on May 17, 1931 in Bon Secours Hospital, Baltimore Maryland, where she was the 13th of 15 children of Frederick and Ella Marie Neville and the first child in the family to be born in a hospital. Elizabeth passed away on October 17th, 2022 at the age of 91.
Elizabeth was the loving wife of Walter "Mick" Messick for almost 41 years. Loving mother of Michelle Lynn Shryock (Joe), John Edward Day (Marlene), Shawn Patrick Day (Phyllis) and David Lee Messick (Terri). She was the beloved grandmother of Kathleen Shannon Carter (Thomas), Lisa Marie Salibrici (Jonathan), Matthew John Day (Sarah). She was the Great Grandmother to Jacob Thomas Carter, Ethan Salem Day, Christian Messick Day, Gracelyn Paige Salibrici and Lucas Jonathan Salibrici. She is also survived by one sister , Theresa Zeitler as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Lizzy grew up and spent her entire Spiritual life of 91 years, in the church she was very proud of - St. Joseph Monastery Church in Irvington, where she attended mass, was involved in many church activities and had many friends in the parish during her life. She was also quite proud of her relationship with the Sisters of Bon Secours-where she spent most of her working career, not to mention the pride of 2 of her own sisters (Gemma & Angela) becoming Sisters of Bon Secours.
Lizzy cherished her large family of brothers and sisters. When she met someone new, she was sure to tell them she was part of the Neville Family from Irvington. She also had a passion and love for spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and the numerous nieces and nephews many of which she said were her adopted children. Most of all, was her deep love for her knight in shining armour-her husband Walter.
Lizzy loved creating a wonderful home life including planning and hosting her famous parties, luncheons, and Sunday dinners. The house would be packed with friends and relatives who enjoyed the parties and did not want to miss out on them. Lizzy's passions also included spending many hours in her flower gardens, devoted to our Blessed Mother, then sitting back to enjoy the fruits of her labor.
Ultimately it is not how many years of life one has, but how much life we put into our years-Lizzy had both and we are grateful for that. As Lizzy would always say "Thank you Lord for this day you never promised us."
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday October 21st 2022. Visitation from 10:30 - 11:30 am, followed by Mass at 11:30 am, at St. Joseph's Monastery Church, 3801 Old Frederick Road, Baltimore MD 21229. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Lizzy-may be made to St. Joseph's Monastery Parish.
