Scott Sidney Smeeton

February 9, 1960 – July 21, 2021, age 61.

In the early hours of Wednesday, July 21st, 2021, Scott Smeeton passed from this life at home at the age of 61 following a four year battle with cancer. A Colorado native and lover of his flag and country, Scott was born in Denver on Tuesday, February 9th, 1960 to Samuel and Shirley Smeeton. He made Castle Rock his home for the past 30 years with his wife Rhonda and two boys Tyler and Trevor.

Scott served his community as the Athletics Supervisor at Castle Rock Recreation Center where he lived his dream every day by working with kids and sports. He became a known personality in Castle Rock through his work, but it was his infectious smile, laughter, genuine attitude and endless stories (and unrivaled storytelling) that made him a staple of the community and garnered him lifelong friendships.

A lover of sports, Scott’s free time activities aligned fully with his career and his passions – he loved golf, biking, watching and attending games, and most of all playing (and coaching) baseball. Scott’s love for baseball was developed at a young age from his father, and it was around that time he discovered that hard work, education, religion and heart would be the keys to unlock whatever he put his mind to. He carved his path through a multitude of passion-led, always outdoor, career moves – paperboy, painter, meter reader, sports photographer, coach – before becoming an Athletics Supervisor. Prior to taking the position in Castle Rock, Scott spent nearly 10 years working at Harvard Gulch Recreation Center in Denver where he coached, mentored and solidified his love for working in the athletics field.

After graduating from South High School in 1978, Scott attended the University of Northern Colorado, where he met his wife of nearly 40 years, Rhonda; just prior to graduating, they were married on a rainy September 11, 1982. The two moved into their first home in Aurora shortly after where they lived for six years and started their family, welcoming their first son Tyler in 1988. Scott, Rhonda and Tyler made the trek to Castle Rock in 1992 and moved into the house that is the Smeeton home to this day. In 1995, Scott’s clan grew by one when their son Trevor was born.

Scott spent the next three decades as a devoted husband and father, dedicating every moment and ounce of energy teaching and playing baseball (and every other sport) with Tyler and Trevor, planning family vacations, playing with his beloved pups (Snooker, Domino, Mesa and Livy Lou), building an unmatched music library and of course telling endless stories that came with laughter, life lessons and usually many tears.

Scott leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Rhonda and two sons, Tyler and Trevor. He will be missed by many and his absence will be felt by countless friends and family.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 @ 11am at The Millhouse at Philip S. Miller Park (1381 W. Plum Creek Parkway, Castle Rock, CO 80109).
