We are sad to announce the passing of Paul Earl Jones, Jr., 86, of Castle Rock, Colorado. Born January 20, 1936 in Dora, Alabama and left us on June 21, 2022. The beloved brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather passed away surrounded by loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Edna ‘Ruth’ Blocker Jones. He is survived by twin sister, Rebecca Jones Snow, and sister, Carol Jones Hartsfield (Charles); son, Paul E. Jones III (Cynthia Kenwyn Meise Jones) and daughter, Cynthia Jones Stewart (Joshua Stewart); grandchildren, Sarah Lynn Dodge (Richard), Paul Jones IV, Adam Armstrong, Austin Harden, Kristen McCay; great-grandchildren, Riley Dodge, Sadie Dodge, and Calvin Dodge; and numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and cousins.
Paul lived the majority of his life in Alabama. He loved Alabama football. He was a graduate of West Jefferson High School where he played the trumpet in the band and went to every reunion he was able to attend. He had several close school friends that he kept in touch with his entire life. His work career consisted of working in the food service industry and retired as an insurance underwriter. In his younger years, he loved boating and water skiing. On family vacations to the coast, he loved to walk miles on the beach. Cynthia’s (Cindy to the family) favorite memory as a child is going to work with dad on his sales route during summer breaks. "Somehow I got away with racing the power operated hand jacks through the warehouse at 12 years old. He taught me to be independent and to learn how to do things on my own, despite being a girl.’ Paul’s best memory was at six years old. “Dad bought a blue kite with an image of a jet on it. He rigged a deep-sea fishing reel to hold it up and added 300 feet of string. It went so high that it was nothing more than a speck in the sky, so when the string broke, it was found a mile away in a nearby neighborhood.”
In 2016, Paul moved to Castle Rock, Colorado to spend his final years with Paul III and his family. This is where he spent his last days. On visits back home to Alabama, his niece, Deborah McGuire would also spend a lot of time with him doing activities and took him to meet Nick Saban, which was such a proud moment for him.
Paul had a saying that helped him in good and bad times. “’It is what it is.’ Work hard, have integrity, be a person of your word and you can sleep better at night.” Above all, he wanted to always see the good, even if it was hard to find. He lived the meaning of the motto, “hope dies last”. He hoped and loved until the end. He will be greatly missed.
