Carla was known to be faithful, strong-willed and loving towards her family and friends
Carla was born on September 22, 1942 to Carl Silbaugh and Adeline (Crocker) Silbaugh in Gilman, Colorado. She has two siblings; sister, Marcine Clark, and brother, Duane Silbaugh.
Carla Married Richard Vaughn Helton on June 12, 1960 in Canon City, Colorado. Carla loved to cook and bake for her family. She was an excellent seamstress and made lovely dresses and clothes for her daughters, as well as clothes for her daughters’ dolls. She loved fishing at Eleven Mile Canyon, as well as camping and hiking. Carla volunteered at her children's’ elementary schools, and on one occasion, she was asked by the school if she would do a roller skating demonstration because according to her eldest daughter, she was a champion roller-skater. (A surprise to our mother.) Carla loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, doing crafts, playing Scrabble or Yahtzee, and completing jigsaw puzzles. Carla and Richard both enjoyed the few years they lived in California, going to the beaches, enjoying the poppy fields, and sneaking off to Las Vegas to try their luck in the casinos. Blackhawk, Colorado was also a favorite casino destination.
A loving mother and homemaker, Carla also worked in Avon Sales, was Co-Owner of R&C Construction Company, worked at Walgreen’s Restaurant and the Rio Mirada Motor Inn in Lancaster, CA. This is where Carla met her future daughter-in-law, Yvonne. She introduced her son, Vaughn Jr. to Yvonne and they have been together since August 17, 1989. She was a Caretaker at Chatfield Marina, Paradise Bakery, and Owner of Sunshine Home Care. Carla lovingly cared for her grandson Sean Heiman after quitting her job at Paradise Bakery. She took care of him full time for 6 years and then part time for several more years.
Carla had faith in God, was very strong-willed, and was a fierce protector of her family. She would stand up to any teacher or neighbor who she thought might be treating her children unfairly. She and my dad loved each other very much, but our dad learned to not make our mom too mad, or he would end up with his cowboy hat ripped to shreds. Our mom was a hardworking homemaker, who kept a clean house, home cooked most meals, made fabulous desserts, and held several jobs along the way so her family wouldn’t need for anything.
Carla is survived by her adoring husband Richard along with her vast and loving family that includes her daughter Laura Jean Page-Howell – (Ken Howell), son, Richard Vaughn Helton Jr. (Yvonne Helton), daughter Julie Elaine Heiman – (Kim Bert Heiman). Her incredible grandchildren, Adam Andrew Page (Angelica Page), Richard Vaughn Helton III (Alexis Josza – fiancé’), Hayley Rose Helton, Trevor Daniel Helton, Kasey Raines Helton, Joel August Heiman (Marisa Heiman), Sean Carl Heiman all who will miss her dearly. Carla amazingly has 4 beautiful Great-grandchildren, Ace Page, Alice Page, Jameson Heiman and Sophie Heiman. Carla is blessed to have a Great-great-grandchild, Leslie Hansen (daughter of deceased grandson, Bailey Hansen)
