William loved to dance, be silly, make people laugh, entertain, and tell stories. He had a servant’s heart, and listened to others intently when they talked. William was an observer, he was always quietly observing people and their interactions, which allowed him to notice things other people overlooked. If you were having a bad day – William noticed, and he would make you talk about it. He had a heart of gold. William loved the game of basketball and was an avid Duke fan! His passion was cooking and serving others!
The truth is, we have been grieving over losing parts of William for many years. The bondage of addiction slowly but surely stripped William away from us piece by piece, until his chains were released as he entered the gates of Heaven on Friday. Addiction may have taken away many things that we loved about William, but behind it all, he still had a huge heart and we will always remember him as the William we loved so dearly.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Parker, his paternal grandparents, William and Judith Stephenson, and his maternal grandparents, David and Marilyn Martin.
William is survived by his daughter Emma Elisabeth Stephenson; his parents Will and Diane Stephenson; brothers Martin and his wife Cassidy, Kendell and wife Rachel, Cameron and wife Breanna; Sister-in-law Celeste Stephenson; Nephews, Mason, Brantley and Walker; Nieces Della, Ryleigh, Blakely and Bristol; and his nephew Hudson due in May; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; and second mom, Myra Gammon.
We will celebrate the life of William on Friday, January 21 at 11am at Hope Community Church, Buck Jones Road. Due to Covid, there will not be a visitation with the family but there will be a viewing starting 1 hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to an account that has been established for the education of William’s daughter. Checks may be made out to Suntrust Bank and mailed to 4028 Kaylor Creek Drive, Apex, NC 27539. There will also be a gift box at the funeral service for these donations.
