Timothy William Gillespie, known to his loved ones as Tim, passed away on August 14, 2023, in Raleigh, NC, at the age of 70. He was born on July 7, 1953, in Chicago, IL. Tim was a devoted family man, with a great one-liner sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. He had long-lasting and deep friendships, and though his fashion sense may have been challenged, his faith and love for his family never wavered. Tim was a proud Pops to his grandson, Patrick.
Timothy is survived by his loving wife, Karen Gillespie, his son Brian Gillespie (with wife Stephanie Gillespie) and his grandson Patrick Gillespie. His brother Mick Gillespie (with wife Gina), sisters Beth Swift (with husband Rich) and Peg Ayello (with husband Al (deceased), and loving uncle to Dan Ayello, Laura Ayello, Jim Ayello, Kate Ayello, Mike Swift and Pat Swift, and cousin to many Gillespie and Hull families. Tim was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Betty Gillespie, as well as his father-in-law Stanley Hodor and his mother-in-law Bernice Hodor.
In his early years, Timothy attended St. Emily School and later graduated from St. Viator High School. He continued his education at St. Norbert College. His achievements in football and track earned him inductions into both St. Viator's and St. Norbert College's Sports Hall of Fames. Tim continued his passion for football and played professionally from 1975 until 1979. Tim went on to have a successful career as a Sales Manager at Union Carbide and Morganite.
Timothy found solace and strength in his faith, worshiping at St. Emily Catholic Church and St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. His devotion to his beliefs was an integral part of his life.
Outside of his professional and religious pursuits, Timothy enjoyed various hobbies. He was an avid golfer, a sports and fitness enthusiast, and had a deep interest in family genealogy and history. Timothy was also an avid reader, always seeking knowledge and new adventures through books.
Services to honor Timothy's life will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Apex, NC on Friday August 25, 2023 at 2pm. Additionally, at a later date, services are planned to take place in Mt. Prospect, IL, to commemorate his roots, followed by an internment at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Timothy Gillespie can be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, an organization close to his heart.
Timothy William Gillespie will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His memory will be cherished, and his legacy will live on through the love and laughter he shared with those around him.
