Susan was born in Rochester, New York, the youngest of four, on October 16, 1938 to Francis Lee Carroll and Frieda Finch Carroll. She grew up in Oswego, graduated high school, then studied at University of Connecticut. Her education was cut short due to illness which sent her to live in Alaska with her parents. That’s where she met and married her husband, an Army First Lieutenant, Frederick Wentworth Ford, Jr., on June 18, 1961. They moved to Columbia, South Carolina, where Frederick (Chip) Wentworth Ford, III was born. After Fred completed his education at University of South Carolina, they moved to Hopewell Junction, New York where they had Wendelin Robin Ford and Tracy Ford Flynn and lived for many happy years.
Sue and Fred moved to Cary, North Carolina in 1984 where they lived happily for 40 years. Sue enjoyed working as an enrolled agent for H & R Block, volunteering with several clubs, playing tennis at MacGregor Downs Country Club and was an active member of her book club and the Thursday Girls. She loved to bake, cook, play bridge and sew. She was a true family matriarch planning family holidays, dinners and birthdays.
Sue was predeceased by her parents, brother Herk Carroll, and sister Jane Hall. Sue is survived by her husband Fred, children Chip, Wendy and Tracy; numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren (Abbey, Kiera, Mary and Davis); her sister Debby; and her beloved dog Summer.
Services will be held at Brown Wynne Funeral Home at 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, North Carolina on June 29, 2024 at 2pm. Light refreshments to follow.
