Russell Miles Johnson, 79, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 after a brief illness. He was born April 1, 1931, in Aurora, IL to the late Fred and Dorothy (Horn) Johnson. Russell graduated from the University of Illinois in 1954 with a BS degree in Agriculture. Upon graduation he entered the Army, went through flight school and was a fixed wing pilot and flight instructor. After being discharged from the Army, Russell worked with International Harvester as an Executive in both the overseas and domestic divisions. Later, he became a store manager for J.I. Case Company in Fenton, MO and Bolingbrook, IL. Upon retirement in 1991 he and his wife moved to North Carolina.
Russell is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Park Johnson of Fuquay Varina, NC; children, Judith Clayton and husband, Jesse, of Wilson, NC, Susan Johnson of Holly Springs, NC, William Johnson and wife, Susan, of Champaign, IL; grandchildren, Alexandra Thurston, Amalie Johnson, Reid and Mac Clayton; brother, Frederick Johnson of DeKalb, IL; sister, Sally Neuman and husband, Duane, of Raleigh, NC; sister in law, Barbara Bengston of Ft. Myers, FL.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Rd, Cary, NC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
