Roy Daley Smith, Jr. was born September 5, 1952 in Houston, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Sr. & Adele Smith. He passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on February 9, 2015 in Cary, NC. Roy graduated from Mary Carroll High School in Corpus Christi, TX in 1970 and The University of Texas in Austin in 1976 with a B.A. in Computer Science, and remained a faithful Longhorn follower and supporter. He worked for many years in the computer science industry with Texas Instruments and IBM and was transferred to Cary, NC in 2001.
Roy had a passion for all sports that his three daughters participated in. He went from coaching them on the sidelines to becoming a select/club soccer referee for the past 10 years in the Cary, NC area. Roy was loved and respected by all. He touched the lives of many through his years of refereeing; not just
those with whom he shared officiating, but with coaches, players and parents alike. He will be remembered for his easy, friendly smile, his generous words of encouragement and willingness to always help others.
Roy married the love of his life, Nancy Myers Smith, May 29, 1982 in Austin, TX. He is survived by his three beautiful daughters, Ashley Smith of Cary, NC, Emmy Smith of Albuquerque, NM and Brittany Smith of Cary, NC. In addition he is survived by his sisters, Frances Steele (Jack) of Houston, TX, Beckie Zientara of Austin, TX and Patti Riggs (Randy) of Austin, TX. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Austin, TX.
