Ross Laderman, MPH retired from Kowa Research Institute in July of 2023 after 18 years. He had a very long career in pharmaceutical regulatory affairs, both as a regulator and as an industry executive. He started his career at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after completing his undergraduate degree at MacMurray College. During his 25 years with the FDA Mr. Laderman served in a number of positions of increasing responsibility, first as a field investigator and, during his last 10 years, as Deputy Director, Division of Scientific Investigations in the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER). He has been involved with the full spectrum of drug regulatory programs and policies and was recognized as an expert in the application and regulatory evaluation of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) compliance and programs. He also played an active role in International Council for Harmonisation (ICH) collaborations and twice served as an expert advisor to the World Health Organization. In addition, Mr. Laderman has participated in various forums sponsored by Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society (RAPS), Drug Information Association (DIA), Food and Drug Law Institute (FDLI), Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PRMA) and others.
After leaving the FDA, Mr. Laderman was Vice President, Regulatory Affairs at Guilford Pharmaceuticals and held the lead regulatory affairs positions at Delsys Pharmaceutical Corp., PRA International and Biostratum, Inc. before joining Kowa Research Institute in 2005. Mr. Laderman received his M.P.H. in Health Policy & Management from Johns Hopkins University and took post-graduate training at several other distinguished institutions. Mr. Laderman’s professional society memberships included RAPS, DIA and FDAAA.
Mr. Laderman was a member of Kowa’s senior management team and the principal interface with the FDA and was responsible for all U.S. regulatory affairs activities.
Ross is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Toby Rita Laderman, his two children Marcie (Tom) and Steven (Johanna), his five grandchildren Jessica, Morgan, Sarah, Ethan, and Alisa, and his three great-grandchildren Marcelo, Mateo, and Maddox. Ross was a true “family” man and loved being surrounded by those he loved. From family vacations to simple Sunday dinners, he was happy to coordinate it all in order to accommodate everyone. Ross always had the largest family group at his company outings. He would brag about his kids and grandkids to anyone who would give him an ear.
Ross’s request for a graveside service will be held Monday, September 16, 2024 at 11:00AM at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC, 27612.
Ross will be forever missed by everyone who he touched. His love and compassion for family will be passed down for many generations to come. His radiant smile will forever light up the skies above for all of us remaining.
