Bob was born on June 14, 1931 to Ernest R. (Pete) and Florence E. Allbert in Hays, Kansas. He graduated from Ames High School in Ames, Iowa in 1949 and graduated from Iowa State University in 1953. Bob was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. He was a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force serving as a communication officer at Wheelus Air Force Base in Tripoli, Libya. Bob was an executive for JC Penney in various positions for 25 years. During his career as a manager of the JC Penney store in Beaumont, TX he was a member of the Rotary Club, chairman of the board of management of the YMCA and served in key positions in the United Appeals and Boy Scouts of America before starting his own business, Precision Tune Auto Care, which included multiple auto care centers in North Carolina. His first store in Raleigh, NC was located in an abandoned service station and opened in July 1979. During two months of remodeling the garage into a Precision Tune center, he slept on a folding cot, cooked on a camping stove, and showered with a garden hose. After retiring from the day-to-day operations, he developed a passion for woodworking -- building a beautiful portfolio of furniture and art carvings.
Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth; his children Martha Sanderson (David), Dr. John Allbert (Susan), and Jason Allbert (Elizabeth); his grandchildren Kristine, Katherine, John, Caroline, AnnBrendle, Knox, and Chase; his seven great grandchildren, Fitz, Ollie, Caroline, Rhett, Kiersten, Luke, and Reid. He is also survived by his sister Coleen Nutty of Ames, Iowa, sister-in-law Mary Lou Wheeler of Ames, Iowa, and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Muriel Nicholson, and his son, James.
