On April 19, 2022, Peggy left to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ surrounded by family in the home she loved. Born in Chatham County to the late Lexy and Mary Lela Goodman Clark, Peggy graduated from Pittsboro High School in 1954 and attended Women's College in Greensboro (now UNC-G) before working for the Chatham Bank and Siler City Manufacturing Company. In 1959, she moved to Raleigh to work for Cameron Village, Inc. She met the love of her life, Bill Smith, whom she married in 1960. Together, they founded TW Smith Company, commercial contractors, and raised Christmas trees in Glendale Springs, NC, at the Top of the Mountain Christmas Tree Farm.
A devoted member of the Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church since 1961, Peggy served her church through committee work, singing in the choir, and as a Deacon and an Elder.
Peggy loved traveling, both in the US and abroad, which she did with her good friends, her sisters, and her husband and daughters. In addition to hosting family and friends in Raleigh and Glendale Springs, she loved working in her yard, doing needlework, solving puzzles, watching movies, and reading.
Preceded in death by her husband, Bill, Peggy is survived by her two daughters: Joyce Smith and Karen Smith King (husband, Jeff) both of Raleigh and grandsons Hunter King and Tyler King. She also leaves to cherish her memory her two sisters, Frances C. Smith and Barbara C. Pugh, both of Pittsboro, as well as a host of family and friends.
Private interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh. On Monday, April 25, 2022 at 11:30 am, a Celebration of Life will be held at Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends afterwards in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 4900 Kaplan Drive, Raleigh, NC 27606.
